BittooTikkiWala is the caterer at the new BJP HQ canteen in Delhi, and plans to serve its evergreen hits as well as customised healthy foods.
New Delhi: Popular north Indian food chain BittooTikkiWala (BTW) is now going to serve the BJP at its new headquarters in Delhi.
“It is our duty. We have to take care of our ministers, the rule-makers, and then they will take care of the whole country,” said J.N. Kushwaha, CEO of the company.
A big name in the food industry, BTW has secured the position of caterer at the BJP’s new headquarters at 6A, Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg.
However, the company, which runs a catering business, a chain of restaurants and produces FMCG goods, had humble beginnings.
A tutor from Ayodhya, S.R. Yadav, also known as Bittoo, began by selling north Indian street food like chaats, bhalla, and tikkis on a redi (push cart) around Delhi. In 1991, he set up a small shop in Rani Bagh Market.
Today, the company runs franchisee restaurants in 15 locations across Delhi, and has catered for big institutions like the Election Commission and the Delhi Police.
“We got summoned by the BJP headquarters. Since we are in the food industry, our job itself is to feed people. I am thankful to the BJP for giving a small brand like us a chance,” Kushwaha told ThePrint.
Inside the BJP headquarters, the catering company has planned to sell food at a subsidised rate.
“Being citizens of India and businessmen, we are obeying whatever their directives are. We are not there to earn any profits; for example, we are serving tea for five rupees,” he said.
According to the CEO, BTW’s canteen, which has been operational for four days at the HQ, will now serve a range of foods which will include BTW favourites and a list of items that the high command has especially asked for.
The menu will include low-fat healthy versions of dishes like poha, dhokla, rajma chawal, and thalis.
“We use refined soya bean oil, which is supposed to be the most superior cooking oil. We are considering everything we have to in order to provide the healthiest and safest quality of food,” Kushwaha said.
This is in line with party president Amit Shah’s advice to his colleagues to take good care of their health.
Kushwaha added that the canteen would be open to anyone who visited the headquarters.
“We want that people from all parts of the country come and have our food, and will ensure they are served hygienic, safe and good food,” he said.#KhabarLive
