Hyderabad has become a key destination for startups and innovation has become the core for Telangana. In continuing the culture of creativity and innovation, T-Works is hosting Hyderabad’s first and the country’s largest Maker Faire from November 9 to 11 at HITEX Exhibition Centre.
Maker Faire that started about 12 years ago in the US is a celebration of invention, creativity, and curiosity showcasing the best of the global ‘Maker Movement’.
People of all ages and backgrounds gather to learn, share, make and get inspired at Maker Faires. The world has seen 30 mega Maker Faires so far.
Maker Faire at Hyderabad will be spread across 50,000 sq ft with over 200 makers, artists and entrepreneurs from across the country showcasing their work. Close to 20,000 participants are expected to attend the event over the three days. The event is being organised by over 50 makers and 12 maker spaces, artists & artisans, incubators, accelerators, and ecosystem partners. About 10-15 organisations are sponsoring the event. Telangana Government is kick-starting the initiative with different stakeholders.
Sujai Karampuri, CEO T-Works, told Telangana Today, “We are at a stage in India where we have to introduce what Makers concept is. The event is divided into three tracks- Play, Passion and Purpose. Each track represents a stage in the evolution of a maker- creative children to curious makers to innovative entrepreneurs.”
He added, “After Maker Faire, we anticipate that the maker community will look at Hyderabad and increase their engagement with the city. Our aim is to make Hyderabad the epicenter for maker movement.”
There will be a significant maker community representation in the event from Hyderabad, followed by Bengaluru, Mumbai and the NCR region.
“As part of the Faire, we have commissioned installations. This is being made by makers, artists, entrepreneurs, and children. All of them are being made in Hyderabad,” he informed.
The key speakers at the Maker Faire include Sonam Wangchuk (engineer, innovator & education reformist and Ramon Magsaysay awardee), Ramanan Ramanathan (mission director, Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog), Dale Dougherty (founder & CEO, MAKE Magazine and Maker Faire), Jayesh Ranjan (principal secretary, ITE&C and Industries Department), Sujai Karampuri (CEO T-Works) and Chintakindi Mallesham (weaver, inventor and a Padma awardee).
The event will have several panel discussions and over 30 workshops (on aspects such as internet of things, drones, leather craftmanship, pottery and use of scrap etc) where entrepreneurs and innovators will share their experiences, spread over three days of the event. #KhabarLive
