Tandoori chai has become talk of the town after seeing the quirky chai making in tandoor. The making went viral and people from all over India are trying their hands on Tandoori chai. One might have heard of tandoori chicken or tandoori roti but these tea sellers are attracting people with their unique ‘tandoori chai’. A tea made with a special recipe and poured into a hot kulhad (clay cup) has become the talk of the town in the past couple of days in the city.

Rasheed Khan Claim that the concept of making “Tandoori Tea” as one of the first of its kind in the world. Speaking to #KhabarLive, the owners said that the idea came in their mind from the unique milk made by their grandmother in their village and then they both had decided to put that concept into making a tea.

Tea lovers can add another chai adda to their list. Doesn’t it sound perfect to sip a tandoori chai after having a delicious meal of tandoori roti with tandoori chicken? First started tandoori chai went viral in a very short time. Serving 20 kinds of beverages, all made in tandoor, Rasheed got this idea after his grandmother offered him turmeric milk and kept it in a corner of a bonfire.

Similar to this, a tea store in Madhapur CLUBS Tandoori Chai, sells this hot beverage. And, customers are enjoying the new flavour that entered the city, where anything to do with tandoor is loved a great deal.

The regular tea gets a smoky flavour and taste of the chai is completely different. This unique chai is made in small earthen pots and roasted in a pre-heated tandoor, the semi-cooked tea is then poured into the extremely hot earthen pots and left to bubble. As it bubbles, the hot chai is poured into a clean pot and served hot.

They added that the tandoor tea gives a special feeling to the customers since it is poured into a mud cup which gives them an essence of the village’s soil.

Explaining the process of making the tea, Rasheed said, “In this unique tea-making process, kulhads are roasted in a pre-heated tandoor. Then, semi-cooked tea is poured into the extremely hot kulhads to bubble over as it finishes cooking. The hot clay pot gives the tea a smoky flavour. Once done, the piping hot tea is served in another clean clay pot along with bun maska (buttered bun) or biscuit.”

The following simple method to prepare this tandoori chai at home:

Milk – 1 cup
Water – 1.5 cups
Tea leaves – 2 tbsp
Sugar – 2 tbsp
Lemon Grass – 1 tbsp
Mint leaves – 1 tbsp
Tea Spice/Chai masala – 2 pinch
1 clay pot for tandoori flavour

Method of Preparation
Place the clay pot on a flame and heat it up for 10 minutes on a medium flame.

Prepare the tea by boiling the water and adding sugar, tea leaves, lemon grass, mint leaves and tea masala. Once the water starts boiling, add milk and boil for 2 more minutes. With the help of a tea strainer, pour the tea into a glass jar. Now, carefully using tongs, place the clay pot in a deep pot, and start pouring the hot tea into it.

The tea starts bubbling in the clay pot and would eventually ooze out from it. After few minutes, pour it in a clean earthen cup. Well, that’s it !! Enjoy your hot tandoori chai in this cool weather.
