About five lakhs of Adivasis congregated at the annual Nagoba Jatara at Keslapur, a sleepy tribal habitation in Indervelli mandal in Adilabad district of Telangana. They visited the temple and some of them dropped petitions seeking solutions to their land disputes and basic amenities at Praja Darbar, a grievance redressal programme held by district authorities.
Nearly a lakh aboriginal tribals belonging to various parts of Telangana, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha made a beeline to Keslapur, around 20 km from Adilabad district headquarters. They arrived at the holy place by different means of transport including buses, trolleys, auto-rickshaws and two-wheelers.
The tribals formed serpentine queues to throng the under-construction temple of Nagoba, a deity of Mesram clan. They performed prayers and presented naivedyam as a token of gratitude for the wellbeing of their families. They shopped groceries and other home appliances at Jatara and also took part in various games held at the fair.
Security arrangements were made by deploying policemen at the venue. Barricades were also set up to prevent stampede. Parking lots were created on the outskirts of the village. Fire tenders were kept ready and medical department staff was tasked to handle emergencies. #KhabarLive
