The Cyberabad Traffic Police in Hyderabad have announced partial closure of the PVNR Expressway which leads to the city’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) starting from April 22. Authorities said that this was being to done to facilitate black topping of the 11.6 km long flyover.
While the restrictions are unlikely to cause an inconvenience to those travelling to the airport, those travelling from the airport have been advised to look at alternate routes.
“The PVNR Expressway entry points at Aramghar (Agriculture College Gate) and Shivrampally ramp will be closed in connection with the work of Black Topping of the road duly removing the existing BT from April 22 till competition of the work,” an advisory by the traffic police stated.
“Commuters are not allowed on the expressway towards Hyderabad city. However, the traffic moving towards Aramghar, Shamshabad, RGIA can use the PVNR Expressway from Hyderabad as usual,” it added.
The Cyberabad traffic police suggested that commuters travelling from the airport to Hyderabad could proceed under the expressway via Aramghar, Shivarampally, Upparpally, Hyderguda, Attapur and Mehdipatnam.
Those coming from Chandrayangutta and Zoo park road were recommended to travel via Shivarampally, Upparapally, Hyderabad, Attapur, Rethibowli and Medhpatnam.
The proposed road closure could cause massive traffic issues along several points under the expressway but especially near Mehdipatnam and Masab Tank, where the flyover starts.
“All commuters and general public are requested to follow the above advisory and cooperate with the traffic police,” authorities said.
Meanwhile, the authorities at RGIA also issued an advisory, telling commuters in a statement, “Please note that the PVNR Expressway will be partially closed for road works from April 22 till further notice as intimated by the Traffic Police. Passengers are advised to use alternate routes between the city and the airport.” #KhabarLive
