Many students after giving an examination are in a fragile state of not accepting failure. After so much pressure from preparation and writing exams, they cannot take snide remarks from family members or friends. This, unfortunately, will leave students in a helpless situation and take an extreme step of committing suicide.
Last week, in Telangana, four intermediate students committed students over being upset about their poor performance in the tests. The incidents were reported from Vanasthalipuram, Medipally, Jagadgirigutta, and Kukatpally. 17-year-old students – Katraj Sai Kumar, A Vandana, Srinitya, and D. Varsha have taken the wrong step of committing suicide over not scoring well in their academic exams. Before people could digest this sad news, a student from Gandhi Nagar committed suicide after she failed in more than one subject.
Just a few days later, Narayana college student, Nagender took his life by hanging himself after failing in maths subject. In spite of repeated awareness and adequate counseling, students are unable to accept the failure.
TRS leader Harish Rao tweeted on the same by appealing to inter students to not commit suicide. He said this is not the solution and parents should not pressurize their children over studies.
Moreover, TDP MP CM Ramesh’s nephew too committed suicide by jumping off from his apartment after failing in the subject. A total of 12 students killed themselves within a span of three days in Telangana leaving society in the most critical responsibility.
Faced with a slew of complaints alleging discrepancies in the final marksheet released by the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE), the state government on Sunday formed a 3-member committee to look into the issue and submit its report in three days.
This comes after hundreds of students have complained, alleging that they were either marked ‘absent’ or ‘fail’ in the provisional marksheets, though they had cleared the exam. There were also reports of TSBIE printing the wrong subject name on the students’ marksheets in some cases.
A meeting was convened on Sunday by Education Minister G Jagadish Reddy along with officials of the department, following which the three-member committee, headed by Telangana State Technology Services, Managing Director, Venkateshwar Rao, which includes Professor Vasan from BITS-Pilani, Hyderabad and Professor Nishanth of Indian Institute of Technology-Hyderabad, was formed.
The Education Minister also assured parents and said that there was no cause for concern as the state government was actively working in rectifying any errors.
Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Working President K T Rama Rao, who is also the son of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, took to Twitter and said, “Regarding the results, students and parents are requested not to worry. If anyone feels something has gone wrong with their marks, please apply for recounting or re-verification. Our government is taking steps to ensure that injustice is not done to a single student.”
Meanwhile, Congress Working President Revanth Reddy also took to Twitter, to lash out at the TRS.
“Allegations on the intermediate result should be immediately addressed by the Chief Minister after conducting a review meeting at the earliest. The issue should be enquired into and rectified immediately as the lives and future of students are at stake,” he tweeted.
