It appears Y S Sharmila, daughter of former Andhra Pradesh chief minister late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, is a woman in hurry, to prove herself in politics.
For the last few days, there had been a talk about Sharmila’s plans to launch a new political party in Telangana and finally, on Tuesday, she came out in the open to disclose her decision to launch the party.
And once it has become clear, Sharmila has changed the gear and started speeding up the exercise to float the party.
According to sources, Sharmila wants to project her name as YSSR (Y S Sharmila Reddy), instead of just Sharmila, so as to cash in on the name of late YSR and claim his legacy.
Secondly, even as she was talking to a select group of her followers in Lotus Pond, the news about her plan of action came out. She has registered two names for her party: YSR Telangana Party and YS Rajanna Rajyam. In all probability, she might go with the first name.
Sources said Sharmila is planning to contest for both the assembly and Lok Sabha elections, whenever they are held. She has even finalised Secunderabad assembly seat and Khammam Lok Sabha seat for contesting.
Thirdly, reports from the leader close to her reveal that Sharmila might have an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party in Telangana with the sole objective of defeating the Telangana Rashtra Samithi.
She might seek a maximum of 25-30 assembly seats as part of the alliance, where her party has bright chances of winning.
It is learnt she already had a couple of meetings with former BJP president and Union home minister Amit Shah and sought his support. She might have another round of meeting with Shah in the last week of February or first week of March to finalise the deal.
Sharmila has reportedly assured the BJP leadership that she would not allow her Christian faith to play a role in politics. An indication to her strategy: the cross in the front side of her Lotus Pond residence was covered completely on Tuesday, when she held a meeting with her followers!
Earlier, Y S Sharmila, daughter of former chief minister of combined Andhra Pradesh Y S Rajasekhar Reddy and sister of present Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, put an end to the speculations over the launch of a new political party in Telangana.
Speaking to a select important leaders from Nalgonda at her residence in Lotus Pond in Hyderabad, Sharmila declared that she would strive to bring “Rajanna Rajyam” (rule of YSR) in Telangana. She, however, said she would disclose all the details soon after discussing with leaders of all the districts.
“There is no welfare government in Telangana now. Why can’t we bring Rajanna Rajyam, a welfare state dreamed by late YS Rajasekhar Reddy? We shall strive to bring Rajanna Rajyam in Telangana, too,” she said.
Sharmila said she had held discussions with leaders of erstwhile combined Nalgonda district.
“I am trying to understand the conditions at the field level. I will speak to leaders of all the other districts and very soon, I shall come out with a plan of action,” she said.
Sharmila received rousing reception from her fans at her residence. She waved at the followers by standing on the dais erected at her residence. They fired crackers and danced to welcome her political entry.
Flex boards were erected at her residence welcoming YSR fans to strengthen the hands of Sharmila. Though around 100 leaders were expected to attend the meeting, more than 3,000 fans gathered at her residence to cheer her.
