Why Telangana government is playing with lives of citizens as the Covid situation is getting worse day by day. Several doctors, leaders, social activists and citizens are requested to impose lockdown immediately.
Doctors associations and citizens alike in Telangana long for a lockdown, though the state Chief Secretary declared that “there is no need for imposing lockdown now in Telangana State”.
With the increasing unmet demand for drugs, oxygen, hospital beds in the state; doctors, apart from most citizens, are in panicky, and expect that the Telangana government would eventually impose lockdown to control the situation.
According to the Health Care Reforms Doctors Association (HRDA), the state government should, instead of fudging cases on the health bulletin, maintain transparency and reveal facts to the general public about the unfolding crisis so that people will be cautious and take precautions.
Dr K Mahesh, president of the Health Care Reforms Doctors Association (HRDA), said, “It is really sad to hear such statements from Chief Secretary that COVID is under control and cases are decreasing. It’s because the testing was reduced and fudging of cases. We are hearing daily and experienced personally unable to arrange an ICU or NIV bed for known neighbors and even to doctor’s immediate family members. We openly challenge the government to appoint one of us as incharge DH for three days and we will show the facts to people of Telangana”.
Mahesh added, “Already our mistake has cost us in the form of the second wave. We should not repeat the same mistake as the third wave is expected as per epidemiologists. The state government should at least now not play with the lives of people and start implementing strict curbs on unnecessary activities”.
Dr Naresh, a senior resident doctor, said,” We Telangana junior doctors are very disappointed with the govt’s decision of not implementing a lockdown despite the severity of second wave. The present situation is really bad as new variants have come and they are highly transmissible. N440k variants are spreading fast and causing more deaths in AP and other states. Also double mutant strain B1.617 is high infectious and causing deaths in south Indian states. Without physical distancing, Covid transmission is very fast and is increasing infection rates; new lethal strains will come, which is making the situation worse”.
He added, “Scientists are predicting a third wave now if we fail to break the chain and only lockdown can break the chain. The present hospital infrastructure is also not up to the mark for the increasing cases. So, lockdown is must for this situation as it helps in decreasing the caseload, prevent the onset of the third wave, and save a lot of people who are susceptible to infection. We demand the Telangana government to impose lockdown as soon as possible”. #KhabarLive #hydnews
