The state of Andhra Pradesh’s civil society is currently precariously perched, which is bad news for both the populace and the State. The Telugus have traditionally been divided along a number of lines, according to history.
The most important among them is caste. There may not be another State in the nation that is as caste-based. The distinction is pretty clear and blatant in everything from politics to movies to corporations to media. All of this has produced a system in which allegations and counterclaims progressively distort reality and post-truth dominates narratives.
Us frequently become litigious and wind up in court. The same applies here. However, in order to protect their own vested interests, the two main political parties are fanning their caste politics to an extreme degree, burying the welfare of the State and the greater public good in the muck of their hateful activities.
If Amaravati farmers’ padayatra has all the connotations of a political yatra as the ruling party alleges, the latter’s efforts to dilute the fallout of the yatra through a British ploy is all the more dangerous to the society.
In politics and sociology, the Divide et impera strategy is all about acquiring and retaining power through division. This tactic has historically been applied in a variety of ways by empires looking to enlarge their realms. However, it has been difficult to tell the difference between “divide and rule,” which implies the deliberate construction or strengthening of divisions, and opponents taking advantage of already-existing differences.
While it is no secret that the TDP lends all-out support to the ‘Amaravati farmers,’ the government encourages Joint Action Committees to protect the interests of the sub-regions in the State in the name of decentralisation of development through three Capitals.
Amaravati, conceived by the TDP as the capital of the bifurcated State, has already consumed a lot of efforts and money in the form of developmental activity. But the Chief Minister is firm that his concept of development be put in place.
The JACs put in place now by the ruling party leaders in North Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema to seek Visakhapatnam as the administrative capital and Kurnool as the judicial capital serve the ulterior purpose of the ruling party. At the same time, the efforts by both the TDP and the YSRCP in outsmarting each other only create a gulf among the people of different regions.
The already divided Telugus are getting divided further having been drawn into the game of power. The only outcome of all this misadventure would be more bitterness which could lead to pitting the people of three regions against one another.
Things could quickly spiral out of control, and there’s always a chance that this conflict of interests will spread to include conflicts in all facets of life. No one denies that the circumstance may give rise to separatist tendencies, but a continuing consolidation of such conflicting interests may cause more difficulties for Telugu as a whole. Civil unrest is quite risky. Don’t fan the flames of separatism. #hydnews #hyderabadlive #KhabarLive
