Need a win struggle for both South Indian teams in IPL 2022 Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) presently battling in poor form, opener Ruturaj Gaikwad will be under the scanner when strugglers Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad face off in the IPL here on Saturday, looking to register their first big win.
Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, who are winless so far will look to get their first points on board when they clash in match 17 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday – April 9.
Ravindra Jadeja’s reign as captain of CSK has started with three defeats in as many matches, while Kane Williamson’s SRH has lost both their matches played so far this season. CSK suffered defeats against Kolkata Knight Riders, Lucknow Super Giants, and most recently Punjab Kings. Although the bowlers did well in the first innings, the batters failed and CSK was bundled out for 126 in 18 overs, chasing a target of 181.
SunRisers Hyderabad, meanwhile, lost their season opener against the Rajasthan Royals by a huge margin and followed that with a close defeat against new entrants LSG, falling short by 12 in the run chase of 170 at the same venue.
The two southern rivals Chennai Super Kings and SunRisers Hyderabad have met 16 times in IPL so far and it is CSK that has enjoyed the fair share of success against SRH with 12 wins. CSK also holds the edge in the last five meetings with 3 wins.
Three successive losses have put new skipper Ravindra Jadeja under immense pressure and he would hope his teammates can script a turnaround against the Sunrisers, who too are smarting from two reverses. One of the most decorated teams in the history of the IPL, CSK have endured a tough season so far, with the team struggling on multiple fronts, especially batting.
Gaikwad, last edition’s leading scorer, has struggled with his footwork and his scores of 0, 1,1 has put CSK under pressure at the top. The Maharashtra batter, who had scored 635 runs across 16 matches in 2021, will look to find his rhythm against Sunrisers.
The good thing for Gaikwad is that he has the backing of his captain. “We need to give him (Gaikwad) confidence as we all know he’s a very good player. I’m sure he will come good,” Jadeja had said after their last match. There is a lot of experience in CSK’s batting but it didn’t help them against Punjab Kings as they could muster just 126 while chasing 180.
While Robin Uthappa had scored a fifty in one of the games, the likes of Moeen Ali and Ambati Rayudu have failed to capitalise on their starts. Skipper Jadeja, too, will need to give a better account of himself, even as ‘de facto’ captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni looks to keep guiding the team.
In CSK’s last outing, Shivam Dube’s entertaining fifty was the only bright spot for the ‘yellow brigade’, and the team will expect him to deliver again. In bowling, all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, IPL’s leading wicket-taker, has been the most successful bowler for CSK as he returned with three wickets against PBKS. Academy.
SunRisers Hyderabad
Kane Williamson-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are yet to win their first game in the 15th season of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The team, so far, has played two matches in this year’s IPL and faced defeat in both games against Rajasthan and Lucknow.
While the other franchises have got at least one power-hitter in the top three, Sunrisers have opted for more than a traditional outlook. Rahul Tripathi is no longer the same player who sparked the IPL for KKR. Meanwhile, Abhishek Sharma is yet to establish himself in the IPL after moving between franchises over the last few seasons.
Nicholas Pooran remains the only batter in SRH’s top-six who has the ability to clear the ball at will. Despite getting out on a duck in the first game, Nicholas Pooran showed glimpses of his dynamism in the second albeit in a losing cause. Kane Williamson, Nicholas Pooran, and Aiden Markram occupy three foreign slots themselves, putting enormous pressure on the Indian bowling contingent to put up match-saving efforts.
Chennai Super Kings
The four-time champions Chennai Super Kings suffered a 54-run loss in their previous encounter against the Punjab Kings (PBKS). Their batting let them down in the fixture as they were bundled out for 126 while chasing a still target of 181.
They have a net run rate of -1.251 and are in search of a miraculous turnaround after their dismal start. They will want to secure victories at this crucial juncture of the competition if they want to finish in the top four.
Shivam Dube has emerged as the top performer with the bat for Chennai so far in IPL 2022. The swashbuckling batter has managed 109 runs from three matches at a magnificent strike rate of 165.15. In their bowling department, Dywane Bravo has claimed five wickets from his three appearances.
Both teams are looking for a desperate win, SRH looked much better in the last match and they will fancy their chances. On the form, it seems an even contest, but if Chennai Super Kings bowlers and batters click as a unit then SRH will be in trouble.
However, SRH also showed a fight in their last match after suffering a heavy defeat in their opening match, taking the run chase close. Still, history and team comparison make CSK the favourite. #KhabarLive #hydnews
