The talk in media on any sensational issue will ruin the peace and harmony in political parties to gain extra mileage. This Telugu States ‘reunion’ suggestion is storming the negative vibe.
Another diversionary strategy appears to be the informal discussion of the “reunification” of the Telugu states in various circles, including the ruling YSRCP.
If not, why would they wish to revisit a dispute that has already been resolved? While the talk of the Telugu states coming together is catching on like wildfire in the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, it has received criticism from a variety of sources.
The Congress and the BJP, two national parties and prominent political figures in the state of Telangana, appear to be overly active in igniting this controversy. After six decades of struggle, the people of Telangana area were granted statehood eight years ago, and it has been suggested that a plot may have been planned against them. The remarks of Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, the AP government’s advisor, who is ranked second only to CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy in the governing YSR Congress, take on significance in this context. The words made by Sajjala have spread throughout the entire Telugu state.
Certain groups of people in both states are confused as a result of those comments.
Intriguingly, the Telangana Rashtra Samiti, which is in power there, appears to have ignored the subject while knowing full well that the bifurcation issue was resolved according to protocol by the previous UPA administration, which was run by the Congress party eight years ago.
Some people believe that the actual separation occurred against the will of the vast majority of the inhabitants of the former Andhra Pradesh. One can compare this to the topic of classifying reservations for Scheduled Castes. The categorization of reserve for SCs had been approved by a unanimous vote of the Legislative Assembly of the then-undivided AP.
That unanimous resolution was sent to the Union government, hoping it would take necessary steps to fulfil the demand of one group viz. Madiga caste. But another major caste viz. Mala resisted the move. Ultimately, the Supreme Court set aside the move for categorisation of reservation for SCs by clearly stating the vital point that there are no divisions/groups in Scheduled Castes. Due to the pressure mounted from political parties that favoured the Madiga caste, the Union government appointed a commission to look into the matter, despite clarity from the apex court. After all, vote bank politics can drive parties to make possible what seems impossible. Principal political players viz.
TDP & Congress sided with the Madiga caste, irrespective of the support they had enjoyed from the Mala community. Members of the Legislative Assembly belonging to these two castes of SCs — Madiga & Mala got divided on the lines of caste in those days.
Similarly, bifurcation of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh had taken place despite the resentment of a majority of people in the Andhra region. The sentiments of these people were ignored by the Union government for political reasons. Ironically, the very same political strategy boomeranged on the Congress party and dashed its hope of ruling the newly carved Telangana State. The grand old party had enjoyed the support of people in erstwhile AP in two consecutive elections – 2004 and 2009. Besides, Andhra Pradesh was the only state in which the Congress got 30+ Lok Sabha seats in two consecutive elections. It could not reach double-digit in any state, except Andhra Pradesh.
Interestingly, people of residuary AP, having vehemently opposed the bifurcation, voted in favour of TDP in the 2014 elections, though the party had written a letter to the Union government favouring bifurcation of the undivided state.The TDP could not fare well in Telangana, despite its support for the state’s formation.
Now, if Sajjala was sincere in his utterances, he should have first talked about the joint capital of Hyderabad. Any loose talk about reunification may come in handy for the TRS in days to come as any influence of Andhra in Telangana’s affairs could be used as a political weapon by TRS.
Given that residents of both states have adjusted to the new circumstances, the reunification of the two Telugu states may not be feasible at this time. It is unwarranted to bring up this topic right now. The Telangana people, for whom this sounds ominous, might become enraged by this.
It is only logical that some groups already believe the entire situation to be the result of an Andhra plot. Giving the reunion theory any traction would have negative effects on the peace and tranquilly in both states. #KhabarLive #hydnews #hydlive
