The busy Indian IT city, Hyderabad, struggles to repair the roads facing monsoon damage, and the key infrastructural projects are expected to bring new connectivity. GHMC has been conducting recent pothole-filling drives, which have, in fact, filled thousands of potholes; yet, key flyovers continue to be delayed even in 2026. This blog covers the recent situation, issues, and trending issues that shape the roads in the city.

Recent Road Repair Drives

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) introduced vigorous road safety campaigns to deal with potholes, which occur following heavy rains. By the end of 2025, GHMC had repaired 19,659 of 21,000 potholes found in the city with the help of geo-tagged applications that tracked the potholes in real time and could be repaired promptly. Other activities involved refurbishing 920 catch pits and 465 covers and repairing 18 central medians, with the high-priority area being places such as Secunderabad (4,692 potholes sealed) and Kukatpally.

Previous attempts in October 2025 had mended 15,925 out of 18,087 potholes, and Commissioner RV Karnan has instructed the war footing to limit inconvenience to the commuters. The number of potholes responded to had reached 90-plus per cent, with 9,899 in the IT corridor alone of 12,696 total identified after the rains. The 2026 budget of GHMC, which has budgeted 11,460 crore on roads, bridges, and the Comprehensive Road Maintenance Programme (CRMP), is an indication of a sustained emphasis.

These impetuses would make the roads on arterial and internal roads safer, minimising the number of accidents and traffic congestion during rush times.

Status of the Key Infrastructure Projects

The infrastructure in Hyderabad is booming with mega projects of NHAI, GHMC, and state plans. A 340 km expressway, the Regional Ring Road (RRR), is progressing to Phase 1 completion in March 2026, with bitumen laying being done in Medak, Toopran, and Bhongir by the middle of 2025, and solar-powered toll trials. It links economic zones, increasing IT hubs, Genome Valley, and the 4th city at Mucherla.

The Metro Phase II is extended to 70 km, connecting major locations, and the Airport Metro continues to improve journeys to Shamshabad. L&T won contracts for Greenfield Radial Roads Phase-2, which includes a 3.6 km viaduct, underpasses, service roads, and cycle tracks between Outer Ring Road and RRR.

The others in the Rs 60,799 crore road plan of Telangana are the eight-laning of the  Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway and the Rs 20,000 crore greenfield link to the seaport of Rajahmundry. GHMC speed-tracks roads to the new Osmania General Hospital (OGH) and grants 74 out of 90 road junction improvements, amounting to Rs 233 crore.

Major Delays and Challenges

NH-44 flyovers at Dairy Farm, Suchitra, Kompally, and Medchal are also to be extended to June 2026 as part of Bharatmala Pariyojana, which began in 2022. NHAI gives reasons for the lack of funds, labour problems, and rain; 70 pillars are completed, and deck slabs are to be done, but earth mounds are causing jams in commutes by doubling them.

Resident Welfare Associations lament the 4-year delay on this crucial Secunderabad-Medchal corridor, which is being used by office-goers and trucks. The Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) advances at a sluggish pace; in 2022, nine projects were completed, and 17 major projects have been completed over six years at an overall cost of Rs 1,010 crore, although full implementation (approvals) is at Rs 20,000 crore.

The monsoon potholes have become a yearly problem that puts GHMC to the test,  even with the drives, but land acquisition is slowing down the junction upgrades.

Effects on the Economy and Everyday Life

Repair of potholes reduces risks of accidents caused by cut accidents as well as festive season blockages, benefiting IT professionals in the Gachibowli-HITECH City. Peak-hour frustrations, such as NH-44, increase the number of trips of thousands of people by 1-2 hours.

Projects completed, such as RRR, are driving real estate in Shamshabad, Adibatla, and Sadashivpet, where Tata and Adani invested in pharma and aerospace. The radial roads serve Young India Skills University and Bharat Future City, which is a promise of jobs and inflows of Rs 1 lakh crore.

Green city Hyderabad is raised to greater heights with the Musi River rejuvenation and smooth roads.

The Future Perspective and Trending Topics

RRR milestones will be in 2026, Airport Metro will be announced, and Rs 60,000 crore expansions will be made, which will make Hyderabad a Global Metropolis 4.0. With full CRMP implementation, junction flyovers, and AI City Mucherla with dedicated utilities, GHMC is looking at a budget for 2026.

Commuter forums and property booms drive the SEO trends around Hyderabad RRR investment 2026, GHMC pothole repair updates, and NH-44 flyover delay impact. There will be high-cost corridors such as Mannanur-Srisailam (Rs 8,000 crore) and the Jubilee Hills tunnel.

These upgrades will guarantee traffic jams, an economic boom, and habitable streets in 2027.
