The month-long suspense over the launch of metro rail service on L.B. Nagar stretch is over. Minister for Municipal Administration & Urban Development K.T. Rama Rao tweeted on Wednesday that the 16-km Ameerpet-L.B.Nagar stretch would be opened on Monday (September 24) noon.

Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan would officially inaugurate the service at Ameerpet inter-change station. This would complete the 29-km Corridor One between L.B. Nagar and Miyapur and would be the first one to be finished in all respects from among the three corridors.

The Miyapur-Ameerpet stretch of 13 km was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in November last along with the 17-km Nagole to Ameerpet stretch as part of the opening route of Miyapur-Ameerpet-Nagole straddling Corridor One and Corridor Three.

Hyderabad Metro Rail MD N.V.S. Reddy said the entire Corridor One, including the 16 new stations between Ameerpet and L.B. Nagar, would be available for public within hours of the Governor flagging off the operations.

“We are planning to have a frequency of five minutes for each train and also considering to increase the timings in the evening hours. It will take 52 minutes to cover the 29-km Miyapur-L.B. Nagar stretch initially, which will otherwise take two hours by road,” he said.

Reddy pointed out that once operational, the 46-km metro rail service – 30-km inaugural stretch plus 16-km new line to be opened – would become the second largest metro rail service in the country next only to Delhi.

Earlier, Rama Rao accompanied by Chief Secretary S.K. Joshi, Municipal Administration Secretary Arvind Kumar, L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad (L&TMRH) CEO & MD K.V.B. Reddy and N.V.S. Reddy met Mr. Narasimhan at Raj Bhavan to request him to flag off the new metro stretch.
